The Marin Civic Center Takes on Extra Curves

with 11 comments

Marin County | California

Here are some images I shot Tuesday of the Marin County Civic Center, the last commission of Frank Lloyd Wright. I used my new “bought-for-Paris” Olympus OM-D camera and a Rokinon manual-focus fish-eye lens.

The building is famous and photographers have probably made millions of images, so I was trying to do something a little different.

Since the Civic Center is full of curves, the fish-eye seemed a natural part of the plan, but then I jacked things up in Adobe Lightroom and Nik Color Efex. The photos are interesting but might suffer from too much post-processing: too much saturation and micro contrast.

I’ll revisit them in a year before making a final judgement.

Robert Redford: So Serious and Formal

with 9 comments

Marin County | California

People seem to like old photos of Robert Redford, so I think I’ll occasionally post some I have sitting around from New York in 1959. I have no memory of why he wanted a photo in suit and necktie. It almost looks like he intended to apply for something. What could it have been?
